Bring your own kayak or Lyn is happy to arrange a scenic/wildlife tour or fishing trip with a local boat operator. And she’s an expert if you’d like her to cook your catch.

Heritage Wildlife Discovery Tour

Touch the Mauri which leads to a sense of unity between man and nature. Navigate the swirling currents and whirlpools of the French Pass Passage. Share the remarkable account of d’Urville and his ship Astrolabe as they discovered the famous French Pass Passage and d’Urville Island. Be enthralled with the legend of the great Maori explorer Kupe, the giant shag Te Kawau a toru and the formation of the French Pass reef. Learn of Captain James Cooks visit to d’Urville Island and the famous white dolphin Pelorus Jack, known to Maori as Kai kai a waro.

You have a wonderful chance to encounter rare seabirds, the endemic King shag, a variety of other cormorants, little blue penguin, fluttering shearwater, Australasian gannet, diving petrel, white fronted tern, variable oystercatcher, reef heron, gulls seals and often dolphin. French Pass acts as a passageway for migrating Bottlenose Dolphin, Common dolphin, Dusky Dolphin, and at rare moments Orca and whales.

All tours are 4 hours and currently cost from $155 per hour minimum. The cost per hour may increase depending on numbers. This rate may change at any stage, but we will advise of this when you enquire.
